Protein Iced Coffee Recipe

Introduction

Sometimes, in hot weather, you just can't face eating whole food. In such situations, this protein iced coffee recipe is a useful, occasional alternative.

I make no bones about the fact that you really shouldn't drink your food (my nutrition rule #6 plainly says, "Do not drink your calories.").

Generally speaking, drinking your food allows you to get far too many calories with far too few nutrients. Fruit juices and smoothies are terrible for your health, simply being an infusion of sugar. And while they're arguably better, even beverages like the much vaunted "Bulletproof Coffee" provide far too much energy in far to short a time to be healthy on a regular basis.

But like so much in life, there are exceptions to every rule.

In very hot weather, it can be hard to eat a good sized meal, especially if that meal consists primarily of protein as mine do. In circumstances like this, a cold nutrient-filled drink like this one serves to cool you, add fluid and give you a good serving of protein with other important nutrients.

It's worth noting that raw eggs might not be a great addition where you live (in the UK, most eggs are produced under the British Lion scheme, based on which the Food Standards Agency say they are safe to be consumed raw). However, if you can, the addition of the egg adds to the nutritional profile of this protein iced coffee recipe.

Protein Iced Coffee Recipe

Ingredients

200ml Cold Brew Coffee

200ml Whole Milk

1 Raw Egg

30g Protein Powder (flavour of choice - I like chocolate)

5 or 6 Ice Cubes

Method

Put all the ingredients in a blender of some description and blend for between 30 seconds and one minute.

That's it!

To make cold brew coffee, simply put 3 tablespoons of ground coffee in a shaker cup or other container, add 600ml of water, shake and leave in the fridge for at least 24 hours.

Shake, filter and serve with sparkling water or as part of this protein iced coffee recipe.
